Volgren manufactures buses using the Co-Bolt® aluminium technology, which we use in alliance with Hess in Europe and Gillig in the United States, providing us with access to proven, world-leading technology.
Worldwide, more than 25,000 buses have been built using this aluminium technology, which is continually assessed and improved.
Our global alliance also provides access to state-of-the-art technology, such as the GM-Allison drive system used in Volgren's Hybrid Bus. This vehicle saves fuel and reduces carbon dioxide emissions, and has attracted strong customer interest.
The GM-Allison hybrid system uses two-mode parallel hybrid technology that combines drive from a conventional diesel engine and an electric drive motor. Depending on conditions and vehicle speed, the system's controller selects the appropriate power source or a blend of both.
More than 2,200 GM-Allison two-mode parallel hybrid-equipped buses are in service in over 115 cities worldwide, with Volgren the first company to bring this world-leading technology to Australia.
