Volgren Australia today handed over the first bus produced at its state-of-the-art Queensland facility to the Brisbane City Council.

 

The bus is the first of hundreds to be produced at the Eagle Farm bus body building plant, which is now fully operational.

 

‘Only nine months ago we were at this site for a groundbreaking ceremony, marking the start of building here, and today we have the first finished vehicle,’ said Volgren’s Managing Director, Peter Dale.

 

‘This has been an outstanding achievement by all involved including the council, the builders and our staff, who have worked hard to get us here today.’

 

As part of the formalities, Mr Dale handed the keys to the new bus to Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman.

 

‘We are delighted that this bus will be on Brisbane’s streets within days, the first of about 150 buses a year we will make for the Council and other Queensland customers,’ Mr Dale said.

 

‘Volgren has been in partnership with the council for almost a decade, and we are proud that this partnership continues to grow stronger.

 

‘More than 90 people are now employed here at this new facility, which shows our long-term commitment to Brisbane and Queensland.’

 

The Brisbane facility is Volgren’s fourth in Australia, complementing bus body-building plants in Perth, Melbourne and Newcastle.

 

‘Last year we delivered 537 buses across the country, making us the biggest bus body-building company in Australia,’ Mr Dale said. 

 

‘But more important than simply being the market leader – and what makes us proud - is the fact we produce the most innovative and the safest buses in the country.’

 

Volgren buses are built using a unique aluminium system, which makes the buses stronger, lighter and more energy efficient than traditional steel buses. Volgren is a family owned company.
